In this session of Women in Science, the current situation of the role of women in science and how it has changed (if this is the case) will be evaluated. The barriers limiting the improvement of the figures will be reviewed, whether external (conjunctural and structural; glass ceiling, sexism, paternalism …), or internal (self-exclusion, family responsibilities, perfectionism, insecurity …). Different actions that can reverse this situation will be reviewed, and we will have as well the male’s point of view. In addition, some scientists will tell ushow they have lived their scientific career.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on university teaching practices. Without a doubt, the most significant effect of this pandemic has been making online teaching and learning the priority instructional format in Higher Education. We will discuss with selected speakers whether online teaching and learning are effective methods compared to face-to-face lessons. In addition, innovative tools for teaching in Plant Physiology will be presented (Moodle 3.9, Microsoft Teams, Drones and Satellites, Kahoot, Citizen Science, and much more).

Prieto Martínez (Professor of Plant Mineral Nutrition at Federal University of Viçosa, Brazil).

The aim of this session is to discuss ideas (pros and cons) on whether (and, if yes, how) we shall have into account the journal IF when deciding where to publish our work. The focus of the discussion will be on two specific issues: whether or not the journal IF is relevant (i) to maximise the impact of the individual papers, and/or (ii) to receive adequate recognition when the quality of the paper is evaluated.

Invited speakers include Enrique Playan (Director of AEI), Jorge Hirsch (who created in 2005 the h-index) and Manuel J. Reigosa (Dean of the University of Vigo).
